Jean Ruth (Hamm) Schmidt, 59 of Leopolis, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 after a battle with lung cancer. Born June 4, 1951 in Wausau, she was the daughter of Ruth (Falstad) Hamm and the late William Hamm. Jean attended Bowler High School, graduating in 1969. She started her career at Employer's Health, then spending many years waitressing at Happy Corners. Up until her illness, she was employed at the Woodland and worked at Theda Care Physicians in Shawano for over 19 years.

On October 7, 1972 she was united in marriage to Robert Schmidt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leopolis. They spent most of their life in the Leopolis/Pella area. Jean enjoyed gardening, playing cards, reading and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Leopolis. Jean also helped the Leopolis Booster Club with the Iron Man over the past 25 years and was a past member of the Leopolis Homemakers.

Jean is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert; twin daughters, Heather (Jim) Stuebs of Marion, Melissa (Rick) Radies of Neenah; 3 grandchildren, Lexi and Will Radies and Taylor Stuebs; her mother, Ruth Hamm of Wittenberg; 2 brothers, Mike (Sue) Hamm, Gary (Emily) Hamm, 2 sisters, Rose Hamm and Patti (Rick) Zeinert; 5 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Warren "Corny" Schmidt, Jack (Ruby) Schmidt, Donna (Jim) Jaeger, James Schmidt and Mary Steinke. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews and has been blessed with many good friends. She was proceeded in death by her father William Hamm.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in the Town of Pella and the Rev. Dennis Creswell officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetary in Leopolis. The Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano assisted with the arrangements.
